Numerous text types are learned at the university and must be used accordingly to celebrate successes. For example, if your instructor tells you to keep a summary of the entire seminar lesson at the next meeting, you need to know how to write a summary. Otherwise, it can quickly come to that more nonsense lands on the paper than is desired. You should therefore follow certain rules in a summary.

Often, a summary is required in the university for the understanding of themselves and the other students. Subject-related compact information that puts the facts in a nutshell is particularly well-documented when summarized in writing.

When is a summary necessary?

In college, as well as during a lesson, a summary can be a compilation of information to give a speech or lecture. Often, students in their lectures do not get tips on how to write a summary. As a rule, you do not have to perform a complete performance of introduction, main section, and ending. You should still follow a good structure to make sure the thread is not lost.

When writing, pay attention to the following points:

Start with a question: A summary should always begin with a baseline question. Even if the writing is not a housework, it should be clear to you what the topic is. The path to the result of a topic should then be merged into different sub-points. Be sure to note the actual path that is crucial to the results.

Tense: Pay attention to the use of the present. It’s best not to write in the past in order not to sound old-fashioned or talk about forgotten content. The tense states that the topic is in the here and now and is still highly topical.

Always pay attention to a factual language when writing. Your own opinion has no business in a summary and would only result in the performance of the different points. The language is best kept scientifically to suit the subject.

Order: The order should be chronological. If the abstract is used for a lecture or even for an oral exam, the oldest events must always be mentioned first. The last points should then be kept up to date to explain to the listener or the reader how the research has developed.

No quotes: quotes are to be avoided. Corresponding citations may, if necessary, be included in the abstract of you. However, this is usually not necessary. After all, it is not a reproduction of a housework, where quite a lot of quotes are happy to be accommodated. Repetitions should be saved, so only the most important facts are mentioned.

For speeches, lectures and inputs during the course of study, key points are to be preferred as a summary of a topic. It is important to make sure not to write complete sentences, as they should not be read from the sheet.
